About Us
Our
Story
Meelup Regional Park is an area of outstanding natural beauty, high biodiversity values and home to many endangered plants and animals. However, this region has consistently come under threat from development. Since 1981, local residents have worked together to stop harbours being built, prevent sand mining and a marina and property development. Proposals continued until a Council referendum to stop development was picked up by State Parliament. The reserves that were to become Meelup Regional Park were gazetted as A Class reserves in 1993 and the Park was officially formed in 1995.
Meelup Regional Park still faces threats from nature and humans. Phytophthora dieback, bushfires, feral animals and weeds still jeopardise our Park. Local residents and visitors can also impact the Park through uncontrolled access, bringing in pets and damaging vegetation. We need to protect our Park.

Kerry Grist was the founding Chairperson of the Friends of Meelup and recently honoured with Life Membership for her outstanding contribution to the establishment of the Friends group

LIFE MEMBERSHIP - Paul and Meredith McGarry
The Friends of Meelup Committee and Members would like to acknowledge the support provided to the Friends of Meelup by Meredith and Paul McGarry.
Meredith and Paul McGarry are West Australians living in Hong Kong for business purposes, they built a home in Eagle Bay for their family several years ago.
Shortly after their first sojourn in the new house Paul approached Kerry Grist and Bob wishing to be helpful and contribute to Meelup Regional Park.
They contributed a substantial sum with which the Committee has been able to pursue some very ambitious plans including establishing the Cape Naturaliste Conservation Enterprise which has attracted a further $300.000 in a State NRM Grant.
The funds have also been used to install Traffic monitors on the Coastal Road, support Research into Soil microbiome and monitor Trail use with pedestrian and bike counters.
The optimism and spirit these funds have brought to the Friends of Meelup and all our associated colleagues who love this beautiful area are valued far in excess of the dollars and cents that Meredith and Paul have given and promised.
We can only thank them by awarding them Life Membership
